KPOP REVIEW: Hello Venus

Read my title above and you'll know what I'm going to discuss about today. Yup, it's about this hot new KPOP sensation girl group, Hello Venus.

According to Wikipedia, the group was formed by Pledis Entertainment and Fantiago. They are the second girl group to debut under Pledis Entertainment (the other being After School). The group consists of Yoo Ara, Nara, Alice, Lime, Yoonjo, and Yooyoung. They are After School and NU'EST's sister group, and debuted on May 9, 2012.

I didn't know about their debut at first until every KPOP member on Tumblr went on a crazy reblogging rage, all about Hello Venus. At first, I thought that these girls are SNSD members who did a total makeover to change their image in the music industry. All of their Korean faces look so alike that I couldn't recognize who is who! Until now, I'm still having difficulties differentiating girl group members. Boy group members are so much easier to recognize due to their striking facial features, trust me.

So, as time passed by, I finally realized that this is not SNSD, but rather, a revamped version of them. Unlike SNSD, Hello Venus has lesser members and a female rapper. I'm not sure who the female rapper is, but she's rather good at it. She's not like the SNSD members who went rapping in THE BOYS, going all girly and high-pitched in the verses. She has a more mature voice and stronger vocals, which I think add up to the good points about the group.

Despite their good points, I'm actually annoyed and disappointed in KPOP girl groups. Sure, sing anything you want, but can you all please stop being so ulzzang-ish? Acting cute and making girly actions make you look more like a SNSD wannabe, and not an original girl group such as 2NE1. Look at 2NE1, they are much more mature and have more originality. Feminine wear is acceptable, but not super short skirts which are bound to expose your asses! Hello girls, are you trying to sell your virginity or music? Please at least wear short pants if you want to wear something which covers your asses perfectly.

Lastly, I don't get the hype that is going around about Hello Venus. Hello Venus is indeed one of those rising girl groups in the KPOP industry, but...aren't KPOP girl groups all made up of the same type of people? Korean girls who dye their hair in exclusive colours, wear short skirts and pants, high heels and adorn lots of accessories. In addition, some HV fans said that the girl with the green hair (I think she's Lime) has that natural turquoise-greenish hair colour. I was totally blown away by that. Her hair is naturally in that colour? It can't be. Even I can go to the hairdresser's now and request for my hair to be dyed in the exact same colour. If it was natural, all the other colours would've been "natural" too. Who are you trying to trick HV fans? Harharhar.

In conclusion, Hello Venus should have at least some originality, and not another cliche girl group. The end.

*HV fans, please do not feel insulted. This is just my opinion, so if you do feel insulted, then I'm truly sorry.
